37,000 ‘New Driver’ packs for Scottish learner drivers

The Scottish Safety Camera Programme has developed and purchased 37,000  ‘New Driver’ pack for distribution across Scotland.  Driving instructors can collect batches of ‘free’ packs from local test centres, as of this week.

The packs take the form of a handy plastic wallet that holds the provisional driving licence, the learner’s progress chart, useful road safety information and any materials the instructor wishes to add during the learning period.

Andrew Jones, Fife Safety Camera Partnership Manager, said: “The pack, developed through partnership working with the Motor Schools Assoc, gives us the opportunity to get some worthwhile safety messages across to these new drivers, many of whom will be in the 17 to 25 age range, a key age group which is over-represented in serious road collisions.  It includes information about the ‘New Drivers Act’, speed limits, and vehicle type restrictions associated to the under 21 years age group”

The Motor Schools Association’s national chair, Peter Harvey, commented: “I have been a member of the steering group for this project along with other ADI representatives and we all think that this new resource will be really useful for instructors and learners alike. We are grateful to the Scottish Safety Camera Programme for investing in these items and for the Driving & Vehicle Standards Agency in providing a handy means of distribution.”
