COMMUNITY OFFICER Susan Martin this week looked to thank all those who supported the recent Silent Auction that was held to raise funds for Strathkinness Primary School and S.A.N.D.S.
This auction was carried out in relation to a Road Safety initiative in the Strathkinness area, which was in response to Road Safety concerns raised by local residents at the local Community Engagement meetings.
This initiative has resulted in significant numbers of drivers (91), having received fixed penalty tickets or warnings for speeding offences and in the last two weeks, eight drivers have been detected and reported to the Procurator Fiscal for speeds in excess of the Fixed Penalty threshold, some travelling at speeds of well over 40 mph in the 20mph zone.
Local Area Chief Inspector John McDonald stated: "We are committed to Safer Neighbourhoods and will continue to enforce this area until the level of offending reduces. In that respect, we would urge ALL drivers to reduce their speed within Strathkinness and give the community a safer environment. The response to the auction just reinforces my view that this community really cares about the safety of their area and we are committed, though the Community Engagement Model to listen and take those concerns seriously."
The auction was a tremendous success with £1481 being raised, which will be split equally between both causes. All prize winners have been notified.
There were well over 130 people bidding on all the lots with the Aviemore weekend attracting the most bids. This also achieved one of the highest bids, along with the malt whisky and the dinner party for eight prepared by a personal chef also attracting high bids.
The lucky winner of the personal chef Superintendent Alex Duncan said: “I was delighted to be told that we had won the auction for the dinner party. We are having an extension built onto our house in September and we are hoping to use the prize to host an extension party for our family before Xmas. The restaurant's excellent reputation speaks for itself and we are really looking forward to Craig the chef hopefully sharing some tips with us for cooking perfect seafood on the night.”
