Staff and pupils at Elie Primary School were delighted to learn this afternoon that they had been successful in gaining the Advanced Rights Respecting Schools Award, making them only the 12th school in Scotland to receive this prestigious UNICEF award. Three UNICEF representatives spent several hours with the Elie PS’s Rights Respecting Schools Working Party, comprising pupils from each stage within the school, HT, parents and community representative – questioning them on all aspects of their work for the advanced level. Elie PS ‘s joint enterprise with partner school Henry Henryson Institute in Blantyre, Malawi played a central part in the submission as did their Newswatch project and their study of rights and responsibilities in literature. Pupils also visited other local primary schools, Waid Academy and the local Guild and Community Council to describe their work as part of this initiative.
